Salary and Pay Scale of Business Administration
- The average salary in the United States for a manager of business administration was $84,390 as of May 2010, reports the bureau. The pay scale began at less than $41,420 a year in the 10th percentile and less than $56,490 a year in the 25th percentile, with the median income at $77,890. Administrative managers in the 75th percentile earned over $103,550 annually, and those in the 90th percentile earned over $135,300.
- Local governments offered an average salary of $80,560 a year for managers in business administration as of 2010, reports the bureau. Those employed by colleges, universities and professional schools earned an average of $81,160, and those working for the management of companies and enterprises earned an average of $100,790. In general medical and surgical hospitals the average salary of an administrative manager was $85,340 a year, and those working for state governments earned an average of $75,960. These workers were also found in the industry of office administrative services, earning an average of $88,900 a year.
- The highest concentration of jobs in business administration were found in the District of Columbia as of 2010, where the bureau reports a salary average of $81,400 a year with 5.21 managers employed per every thousand jobs. New York had the highest salary average out of all states for these jobs at $107,920 a year, while New Jersey ranked second with an average of $106,850 and Rhode Island ranked third with an average of $106,120.
- Job opportunities in business administration will increase by 12 percent between 2008 and 2018, a rate “about as fast as average” when compared with all jobs in the United States, reports the bureau. Growth is somewhat limited by the downsizing of companies, resulting in fewer levels of management. Prospects are best for managers who are trained to deal with a wide variety of duties, as opposed to those who specialize in one or two particular areas.
