What Happens To Your Ovulation When You Go Off The Pill?
I sometimes hear from people who are getting off of birth control pills so that they can become pregnant. Many have an idea of when they ovulated before they started the pill and they want to know if their ovulation day is going to be the same when they get off of the pill.
I recently heard from someone who said: "I went off of the pill two months ago. Before I went on the pill, I ovulated about half way through my cycle. I am trying to conceive and I want a boy baby. But I'm not sure when I should start having sex. Should I start having sex about two weeks after my period? Am I right to assume that my ovulation should be very similar to what it was before I went on the pill?" I will try to answer these questions in the following article.
It Can Take Months For Your Body To Return To Normal After You Get Off The Pill: Occasionally, I have people ask me how to become pregnant on the pill. I often wonder why they are even on contraceptives while trying to become pregnant. But I often tell them that any contraceptive which contains estrogen and progesterone is meant to stop ovulation. That's not to say that a woman can't ovulate on the pill. But often when she does, it's because she has skipped or forgotten some of her pills. Because of this, it can take a while for your body to return back to your normal schedule after you go off of the pill. Most experts tell you that it usually takes anywhere from 3 €" 12 months for your regular schedule to resume.
I have had some women tell me that their ovulation occurred later in the month after they went off the pill. However, there is no need to guess at this. You can find out exactly when you are ovulating by using a good ovulation predictor. My advice would be to start using it a couple of days after the last day of your menstrual period. Keep it up until you get a positive reading that indicates that you are ovulating. Since the woman in the above scenario wanted a boy, she needed to wait to have sex (for conception anyway) until after she got a positive reading. Sex after ovulation favors boy babies because the Y sperm which produces boy babies does not live as long as the girl producing sperm.
So to answer the question posed, your ovulation day can change after you get off of the pill (and you should not ovulate at all while you are on it,) but you can tell for sure when you are ovulating (and if this day has changed) by using a predictor that will give you a definitive answer.
