The reclaimed land in the West Kowloon area in Hong Kong was destined to be revamped as a cultural hub of Hong Kong in 1998. However despite the years gone by, the fruition of these plans is yet to come to pass. During this time the government has instead managed to develop the area as a promenade with amazing and spectacular water front views.
Officially opened to the public on September 17th 2005, the Promenade was not fully opened and visitors were able to access only a part of the Promenade, however in 2007 February 1st the Promenade was made fully accessible to the public.

It's out of the way location in the West Kowloon Water front makes Promenade not a busy and active area as yet. However those wishing to jog, exercise, enjoy a picnic, and relax in a serene environment will all find this Promenade the ideal place to do so.

The entirety of the Promenade's length is decorated with calligraphy and paintings of various forms and styles. Additionally there are over 70 lighting towers, triangular in shape and four meters high with wind chimes hanging from the top. These are known as the Dragon of Lanterns and provide a charming and soothing tinkle of sound as you walk by. A 700 meter stretch along the water front consists of a boardwalk made using construction waste.

Visitors can access the Promenade through various means – if taking the MTR then a 10 minute walk from the station will bring the visitor to the Promenade via Austin Road, if coming from Hong Kong Island then a bus journey through the Western Harbour Tunnel will bring you right up to the Promenade entrance.

If you plan to visit the island and are looking for a Hong Kong hotel from which to base yourself and more specifically looking for a Hotel in Kowloon Hong Kong, then consider the luxuriously comfortable and prestigious accommodation option of The Peninsula Hong Kong. Offering state of the art facilities and international standard amenities it is a delightful place to stay. Additionally, it is conveniently located within easy reach of key locations and transport routes making it the ideal place for both business and leisure travelers.
