The courier market, especially in the UK, is flooded. There are many players in the market from small start-ups to large international organisations, each of whom offer different delivery solutions and levels of service. Naturally, as these levels of service vary so does the price and it's an easy trap to fall into go with the
cheapest because you think you are saving money.

Before you make a decision on a courier company you need to take a step back and think about what your customers would think of you failed to deliver their orders in a timely fashion and in one piece.
They don't see that the courier company has failed; they see that your company has failed in meeting your promise to them and this can have repercussions on your chances of getting repeat business - not least damaging your reputation by word of mouth.

You need to know how your courier company operates and have a good relationship with them. It may help to get a collection of references from other customers of each courier company that you are considering - be careful that many companies will only post positive references on their web sites so if you can talk to their customers.

A consultant will have already collected references, performed research and quality assurances on them and not least performed a pricing analysis.

Next time you consider changing your courier company make sure that you have taken the potential consequences into account before appointing them on cost alone.
