- 1). Determine where you want the shelving unit in your home. Place it so it will be slightly above eye level so the Christmas lights remain unseen but their glow still emits.
- 2). Screw the shelves into the wall, where you have chosen. Drill the screws in to the designated slots to hold the shelving up.
- 3). Run one set of Christmas lights along the back of each shelving unit, where it meets the wall. Ensure that the plug ends of the cords drape over to the same side -- if creating the shelves near a corner, drape them to that side to make them less conspicuous.
- 4). Pin the lights to the shelves using the tacks, not piercing the strands but using their heads to hold the lights in place. Repeat this with all the lights.
- 5). Gather the cords together and tie them with string every 6 inches, cutting off the excess. Plug them all into the extension cord and run it to the nearest outlet.
