In The Heart of Man

103 20
When man began hisjourney traveling independently through time, when soothsayers and philosophers were known, the desire was then as now - to determine the Truth that drives mans soul, that sits in his heart and guides the path of his life.
It's ultimate source.
Yet in all the times of ancient days none were able to comprehend the true essence of man, the source of his breath, the beating of his heart, the imaginings of his mind.
And so gods were created and myths and legends were formed from the not knowing, placating their lives with the unrealities of things unknown..
So yet today it is in ourselves, in our own minds the greatest denial is found.
Truth comes to us with difficulty it would seem, for we are most reluctant to pursue whatever might be Truth, recoiling instead as if it were to be feared.
Sages of old, theologians and philosophers are easily dismissed.
How could we begin to understand their thoughts, digest the meaning of theories, ideas written in words incomprehensible to us.
Or are we simply unwilling.
Of course there is merit to some of what we feel, our apprehension of scholarly works.
Many journals, books and thesis take the mind beyond any useful knowledge into a realm of relativity that has more to do with tweaking words past any actual meaning or truth, distorting instead what was simply meant.
Works of this kind are rarely meant for seekers of Truth, certainly not for us to learn from.
How unfortunate that often the most gifted of minds choose to hold their knowledge as if secret from a world that hungers for some understanding of their purpose, what it is they are meant to be, to know from this life.
So again, we come to the Achilles heel of mankind and it is himself.
If indeed man was determined enough, resolute enough, persistent enough, he would discover of his own a means to unearth whatever Truth he is in search of.
If indeed it is the Truth for which he searches.
Instead man becomes adept in the art of evasion preferring instead to feign ignorance, lack of comprehension and speaks of language barriers and cultural hindrances making the possible not.
It is in fact the pure simplicity of the Truth that we find so incomprehensible and so choose to deny its reality.
Whatever our choice we have determined to remain removed and distant from knowing what Truth it is that created and rules our universe and the world in which we live.
And so we run in desperate pursuit of a Truth we do not wish to know, that plagues our souls and fills our hearts with a fear that when all is said and done we have forsaken the very thing we desired.
We live our lives obscured and shadowed by the weakness of our own heart, an unwillingness to concede that what we feel to be right, is.
Neither was I immune to this weakness of will.
Most of my life was spent evading this Truth, all the while knowing I was running the wrong course for all the wrong reasons.
And all along the way a quiet unerring voice whispering amidst the din of denial, "Where are you running so hard'?So that I now know if it is the Truth we seek, we need only be still and hear its silent voice.
Man has so consistently contradicted himself in this never ending quest it becomes near impossible to determine what it is he is hoping to find.
We run from whatever causes us discomfort, what brings unpleasantness to our lives, so it is not surprising then to see an entire race of humanity caught in the throes of dysfunctional living, unable to relate to one another as once was meant.
The more intensely we search the more distant we become from the harmony and peace we claim to seek.
It is in our living, in the way we choose to be that it becomes painfully evident.
It is these same contradictions keeping us from the very thing we crave, from the Truth that would set all men free from their unrest, their unease, their ties to an empty, fruitless and powerless material world.
Time belongs to no man it was said and certainly our living bears this out, for though we clock its hours and minutes according to our needs, time never heeds our wishes.
We expend needless hours for purposeless gain while placing a different and limited value on family even as we deny this truth.
We are infected with a need to accumulate things, to have wealth, to be someone, while we do not hear the voice of the aging and aged, the sick, the poor and the homeless.
Homelessness in the world's wealthiest nation is a phenomenon we are willing to ignore because we are unwilling to relinquish our purposeless desires.
It is true some care but most find the time lacking and a heart unwilling sinceit becomes easier to blame those less fortunate than to look for our own lack or failing.
Hope, dignity, self worth and compassion are the foundation strengths of a countries greatness - not merely in time of need but for all times, in every way that we live in every hour of every day.
How did we come to this?Have we been so meanly designed to look so callously on our own, willing to cheat, lie, steal, blackmail for things - for notoriety - for power? How do we look at a world so filled with hunger, pain and powerlessness and continue our living as if it were not? What veils our eyes, quiets our souls so we might not know what exists all around us?Perhaps we need to go back in time to a simpler life when commerce as we know it was only a dream in an unborn child's heart.
A time when the world lay blissfully asleep in the arid deserts of a Mediterranean sea and what was known of the world, the universe was captured in the scrolls of these ancient times, of ancient proverbs written by prophets who would never know our world or we theirs.
