What Do You Do When Your Central Air Conditioner System Doesn't Come On?
Switches and Settings
- Your thermostat is the control center for your entire air-conditioning system. There are several settings on the thermostat that could keep the system from running. First check the power switch and make sure it is set to the "on" position. The thermostat temperature setting is also important. If the temperature has been adjusted too high and the air in the room is cooler than the setting then the system will not come on. Try lowering the temperature setting to see if that makes the unit kick on. You should also verify that the switch that controls heat and cooling in a split system is set to "cool" and not to "heat" or "fan." This selection will not prevent the unit from coming on, but it will not cool properly if it is set incorrectly.
