Stress Management: Four Quick Tips for Busy Working Moms

103 21
As a busy working mother, you have to cope with immense amount of stress in your daily life.
Whether it's work-related stress at work or an anxiety ridden home, you must find ways to manage your stress level.
Here are some tips: 1.
Take a Walk
Instead of watching television or sitting on the couch after dinner, why not go on a family walk? Research suggests that an invigorating 20 to 30 minute walk can imitate the effects of a mild tranquilizer.
You also have a moment to breathe in the fresh air, hear the birds chirp and maybe watch the sun set.
All of these relaxing activities will help rein-in stress levels.
Walking allows you some time to chit-chat with your family and catch-up on anything you missed.
Exercise improves your mood and lowers your chances of anxiety and depression.
Exercise also improves your quality of sleep - a problem among highly stressed people.
Three studies presented at the 2011 annual meeting of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society, in Minneapolis revealed that people who are more physically active sleep longer and deeply than those who are sedentary.
2.
Get some 'Me Time'
'Me Time' is time to do something YOU enjoy.
That something could be a nice bubble bath, reading a chapter of the new romance novel you picked up, a massage, a manicure or anything you can fit into your designated 'Me Time'.
If you have a baby and also working to support your family, then your 'Me Time' may only be about 15 minutes a week.
No matter.
What is important is that you carve out 15 minutes and use it for only something you enjoy.
You should work towards having some 'Me Time' every day.
It will give you something to look forward to and help reduce your stress level.
3.
Stop being a superwoman
There's no way you can do everything - and this has nothing to do with your worth.
This just means that you - like all human beings - have weaknesses and limitations.
So if there are some things that you can outsource - do it.
Too tired to clean the house? Hire a housekeeper.
Your son needs with his schoolwork? Then avail of online tutorial services.
The money that you invest in outsourcing these tasks is worth every penny.
4.
Give yourself simple, free (or inexpensive) gifts
You don't need to get a second mortgage to give yourself the gift of relaxation.
You can buy and light a lavender-scented candle as lavender promotes relaxation and calm.
You can meditate for five minutes before anyone else in your household wakes up or five minutes after everyone goes to sleep.
Or give yourself the gift of sleep - essential to lowering your stress level.
Sometimes skipping that additional load of laundry or straightening up the living room to go to bed may be worth it.
Managing your stress is the best way to be a productive and happy mom.
Always remember that you're not a robot who has to work round-the-clock.
So treat yourself well in order to continue to be the nurturing, wonderful woman everyone knows and loves.
