- 1). Pull up onions you wish to use as green onions when they reach 6 inches or more in height. Carefully pull or dig them from the soil.
- 2). Harvest the onion when the top of the plant falls over. This is your sign that it is done growing. Allow the onions to remain in the soil for a week to 10 days after this.
- 3). Remove the onions from the bed by pulling them in the morning, and lay them on the soil to dry. On warm days, they should dry by afternoon. If it is a particularly hot day, place the onions out of the direct sun to dry.
