Temples in Kerala, truly holistic

One of the smaller and less explored states in the country in terms of tourism and travels, Kerala is fast turning out to be one of the prime tourist destinations. One of the major attractions in Kerala is numerous temples that are spread over the lengths and breadth of the beautiful state.

In terms of size, Kerala may be a small state, but it has a host of attractions for the tourists and travelers arriving there. Till the 1980s it was not explored properly for the purpose of tours and travels by visitors. However, gradually many visitors came to learn about the excellent offerings of the state for them in terms of natural beauty, backwaters, exotic beaches, abundance of palm groves and coconut trees, tea and coffee gardens, and above all hundreds of temples displaying architectural uniqueness and excellence that evokes sheer admiration in the viewers.

Most Famous Temples

Perhaps the most famous among the temples in Kerala known as the God's own country is the Padmanabhasway Temple and thousands of visitors from across the country as well as overseas come to visit this famous temple. While there are hundreds of temples in Kerala, some are special. One of them is the Pancha Pandavas temple and another is the cluster of eleven temples; Divya Desam of Lord Vishnu that is associated with the Tamil Alwars.

Other Famous Temples

Also there is a host of other famous temples in Kerala. Examples are the Mannarsala Snake temple dedicated to the Snake Gods; Guruvayoor Temple that is also known as Boolokavaikundam, Sabarimal Ayyappa Sannidhanam temple, Thirvanya Navamukunda temple, Sree Parasurama temple at Thiruvallam, and Ambalapuzha temple.

Temple Locations

There are a host of Hindu temples in and around the capital city of Trivandrum including the Ganapathi Temple, Padmanabhaswami, and Attukal Bhagavathy temple. Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Iduki, Ernakulam, and Kasragod also have a number of highly decorative and architectural temples.

Difference in Architecture

Temples in Kerala has a different type of architecture. While most of the temples in South India are different in their structure in comparison to those in other parts of the country, Kerala temples add some aspects that depict the unique culture of the state and people living there.

Time Constraints

Problem that visitors may often encounter in exploring the temples in the state of Kerala is paucity of time. Most of the areas in Kerala are well communicated and transportation won't be a major problem. Besides public transport, visitors can also used hired vehicles and taxi services but covering most of the temples could be a daunting task for the visitor. It would be therefore good choosing the most famous and must see temples in the state so that major part of the expedition is fulfilled.
