    • 1). Fill the boil pot three-quarters of the way with water and put it on the heating element. Don't fill a boil pot completely; leave room for the ingredients you are putting inside, as well as the boiling motion of the water.

    • 2). Turn the heating element to its highest setting. You can use a gas, electric or induction heating element successfully. Put the lid on the boil pot. The time it takes to boil depends on the capacity of the boil pot and how full it is; watch for steam coming up from under the lid.

    • 3). Take a cloth or dish towel and lift the lid carefully once you see steam coming from under it. If there are only small bubbles around the sides of the boil pot, your boil pot is not fully heated Replace the lid for another three or four minutes.

    • 4). Turn the heating element down to medium when you see the water in the boil pot rolling with large bubbles throughout. This is called a real boil and the temperature will be around 212 degrees Fahrenheit. When you turn the heat down slightly, the water comes to a slow boil, around 205 degrees. Your boil pot is now ready for you to add the items you want to cook.
