Getting Unstuck by Letting the Door Close

103 2
Sometimes we get stuck by revisiting and revisiting situations where the door has closed on us.
We try to resurrect the situations and we live it over and over again.
Each time we revisit we think of what happened, what we did, what we could have done and try to figure out how to get it all back again so we can give it another shot.
We are positive we can make it work "if only" we had another chance.
Let's take the example of a relationship that has ended.
Typically, in my view, you would revisit what was said and done, you might blame for a while, you might come around to the point where you evaluate your role in the break up and decide you want to try again to make it work.
You approach the other person only to be turned away.
You might try again and again - this may go on for some time.
A final time you might approach the other person but still get a "no.
" The other person probably even has gone on with their life without you.
That is a big signal.
When you notice that the "world" has gone on without you it is probably time to recognize that the door is closed for good.
This can apply to relationships, job loss, promotions, awards and opportunities you did not act on or receive.
How many times has this happened to you? What did you do in those situations? Did you persevere even when it looked like all options were shut down? Did that work for you? Did you try for a while and then give up graciously? Or, did you give up immediately and turn to something else? How did it work for you? What did you learn from your experience? How would you handle it if it happened again? Be ready.
You may even want to learn some new skills or gain some knowledge so that the next time will be one where the door doesn't close.
If it does though, you will have learned things that will help you move on.
Don't spin your wheels wishing the past back into existence.
Prepare yourself for the new and be proactive about getting ready for your new opportunities.
When one door closes it is very likely that another one will open.
Stay aware of this and look for the openings that come your way.
If you are feeling stuck and can't work your way out get a well trained coach to help you navigate the path to being unstuck.
It will be well worth it!
