The migraine is, being very common since last few years, commonly termed as half headed headache as it occurs in half head. Usually the patients of migraine feel an aura prior to the migraine. The aura triggers fifteen minutes to half an hour before the pain starts. But this aura is not experienced in all cases. There is another type of migraine which is called common as it is very common among all other migraine types. Now the problem starts when it is to identify whether it is migraine or any other headache. For the doctors it has proved very hard to identify the specific type of headache. The headaches people suffer can be sinus headaches, common tension headaches, migraine or cluster headaches. All these headaches share almost same symptoms whereas there is no specific test that can diagnose and specify different headaches.
The first step you must take in this regard is to have a track record of your headache, record any symptoms you feel before and after, note the exact allocation of the pain and have a follow up of the reasons that cause these pains. Migraine is usually one sided headache, pulsating and throbbing is moderate to severe, it gets worse with any of the normal physical activities, symptoms are nausea or vomiting feelings, sensitivity to light and sounds. Sinus migraine is usually around cheekbones, eyes, forehead and nose, causes deep and constant headache, exercising may make it worse, results in fever, grey or green discharge that lasts from 7-10 days. Tension headaches appear on both sides or all over the head, mild to moderate headache which is deep and tightening headache, and does not impulse or throb, it does not disturbs physical activity, no nausea and vomiting experience, it can last from minutes to days, may or may not be sensitive to light and noise or any of them.
Lastly, cluster headache which is felt on one side of the head, neck or face and sides are not switched, it is so intense and penetrating that turns to worst so quickly may be within even five to ten minutes, if you are lying down it will get even worst, it results in watery eyes with constricted small pupils, swollen eyelids, forehead or face sweating, running nose or nasal congestion, and may make you stay awake all night.
