Titleist 755 Irons Are Company"s New Flagship Set

When Titleist introduced its 735.CM irons about a year ago, and its 775.CB irons earlier this year, the company identified them as aimed at skilled golfers and "aspirational" golfers, respectively. Those players who were already very good, and those who weren't yet but hope to be some day.

Now, Titleist has a new set of irons ready, one that fits in-between the two aforementioned sets and which, the company says, is its new "flagship" set of irons.

That set is the Titleist 755 Irons, which joins the Forged 700 series. The 755 Irons are mid-sized with a larger-volume cavity back, irons that Titleist brags combine looks, feel and forgiveness - and replace the 704.CB in the company's lineup.

"The new 755 improves upon and replaces the Forged 704.CB in the Titleist iron family by offering enhanced playability and control, and a more contemporary look that will appeal to a wider range of players," Chris McGinley, Titleist's Vice President, Golf Club Marketing, is quoted as saying in a news release.

Some of the changes in the 755 Irons, compared to previous Titleist sets, include a thinner face design that saves a little weight, which is redistributed to boost perimeter weighting and moment of inertia.

A forged aluminum dampener chip is incorporated into the cavity to filter out vibrations, improving feel and shock absorption.

And the Titleist 755 irons have a slightly lower center of gravity, which helps with launch and is designed to help achieve a medium-high ballflight.

A couple more technological items of note:

? Dual-length hosels reposition weight lower in the 2 through 7 irons to aid in launch; in the 8 through PW, a longer hosel raises the center of gravity to help with knockdown control.

? And the high-performance sole includes a rolled leading edge and progressive bounce angles to help with managing trajectory and dealing with varied turf conditions.

The Titleist 755 Iron set is progressive, providing continuity of the topline, offset, sole width and blade length through the set.

The set is priced at $112 per iron with steel shafts or $129 per iron with graphite shafts, and began shipping to golf shops on Aug. 15, 2006. The 755 irons are available in both right- and left-handed.
