Giving money is sometimes viewed as an impersonal way to treat someone special in your life. For certain events, like graduation and other coming-of-age celebrations, it's entirely acceptable and even encouraged to give money in lieu of a gift. When you discover birthday gift ideas relating to money, you'll give a gift that few can resist. Better yet, the gifts have a personal slant that reward that special someone with something that feels like an extra gift.

    Make a Money Tree

    • To make a money tree gift, you need a fake tree, such as a small artificial Christmas tree or a plastic tree. If you use a plastic tree, remove a few of the fake leaves first, which lets the money shine. You also need enough money to decorate the tree. Use single dollar bills if you're on a budget or opt for larger denominations. You can also use a combination of both, which makes the tree look as if it has more money on it than it actually does. Fold each bill along the middle, squashing the middle of the bill flat. Attach the bills to different branches on the tree using small rubber bands. You can also use a small dab of glue to hold the money in place.

    Decorative Money Box

    • Wrap a gift for the recipient, using as small of a box as possible. Once you have the box wrapped, arrange one dollar bills around the box, laying each bill side by side and end to end. Secure the money to the package with a few pieces of clear tape. Or, fold multiple one dollar bills into a small box. Lay one bill long-wise and place another on top to make an X-shape. Fold the edges of each bill over, so that the end reaches the middle. Pull the edges up and secure with a few pieces of tape. Make a lid in the same way and use it to hold a small gift.

    Money Related Gifts

    • Treat younger kids to a new purse or new wallet, complete with a small amount of money inside. For kids even younger, give them a gift of a new piggy bank, with a few coins inside the bank. Show the child how to save their pennies to buy something they really want in the future. A board game relating to money, a book on starting a business for kids or even a subscription to their favorite magazine will show them how much they can save.
