Choosing the motor choice, the childhood Danielle and Dani], called the "Pinks" are soon dismayed when they find that no matter how they flirt and cajole, the male staff of the motorcycle shop will not help them assemble a motorcycle. They try on their own, but by the time Fran and Barry arrive, followed by dating couople Ray and Yolanda and married couple Lake and Michelle, the Pinks throw in the towel and head to Campo de Marte.

Lake has no trouble assembling the motorcycle and they get the next clue. Fran and Barry give up and also head to Campo de Marte. Ray and Yolanda persevere and finally get their motorcycle assembled.

The next clue leads them by taxi to a warehouse in the Santa Cecilia district of São Paulo, where they are to participate in a Candomble ceremony, dance with the white-garbed particpants and light a white candle to the third clue.

From the Candomble ceremony, the teams are directed, again by taxi, to their next destination, which is the first pit stop and elimination point. They travel by taxi to a certain entrance of the soccer (called Futbol or futebol in South America) stadium, Estádio do Pacaembu, (see map) as it is usually called, or Estádio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho. A uniformed player welcomes them and host Phil Keoghan informs them of their placement:

1. Eric and Jeremy, who adapted well to jet lag, culture shock and the frantic pace with a laid-back attitude. They were overjoyed to each win $10,000.

1. BJ and Tyler, whose good spirits and amazed responses to the race and the city of São Paulo made them easy to root for
2. Wanda and Desiree, whose language abilities and charm gave them a leg up
3. David and Lori, the dating couple whose visible affection for each other and their positive, up-beat attitude belies their "nerdy" reputation
4. Lake and Michelle. His A-type personality and competitiveness provided some of the conflict within the teams
5. Joseph and Monica, nicknamed, MoJo, who were under the radar much of this first episode
6. Ray and Yolanda, whose athleticism and competitiveness showed through very clearly
7. Barry and Fran, who thought their travel experiences would place them higher
8. the Pinks: Danielle and Dani, who thought their perky outfits and blonde good looks would prove more helpful
9. Lisa and Joni, the "Glamazons" who screech with excitement
10. John and Scott, longtime friends who made some bad decisions along the route that cost them time. However, with this trip John overcame his fear of flying and was thrilled with his helicopter ride over the city. As the last team arriving at the pit stop, they were the first team to be eliminated from the Amazing Race.

After an overnight stop, where are the teams in Amazing Race 9 off to next?

Previews of the next epiode didn't reveal the location, but showed a shot of rock climbing, rain forest terrain and Jeremy and Eric getting better acquainted with the Pinks, Danielle and Dani.
