How to Lure a Deer to Your Stand
- 1). Choose a space for your plot, no larger than a quarter acre. Search for a small clearing in the woods by your stand where the sun makes it through the tree cover for a large period of time each day.
- 2). Prep the area. Clear away excess brush, but leave any large dead items. Spray any grass and weeds with a small spray bottle of Roundup herbicide. Rake away any leaves.
- 3). Spread one bag each pelletized lime and pelletized fertilizer around the cleared area. According to Grant Woods, a top whitetail deer biologist, spreading the lime and fertilizer is essential to prevent the natural acidity of the soil from making the crops bitter.
- 4). Scatter the seed across the cleared area, on top of the fertilizer. Within a few weeks, the plot will reach maturity and deer should begin to feed.
