Social Media Training - Where to Begin?

103 1
The three main reasons why businesses steer clear of social media campaigns are: 1.
They don't know where to begin.
2.
They don't see a place for social media in their business.
3.
They feel they don't have the time.
If you are familiar with any of the three above, then read on.
Your first lesson in social media should be understanding how they work at a very fundamental level: The Structure of a Social Media Campaign There is a very simple structure to these campaigns.
Start off by creating a Blogger or WordPress blog (the two simplest CMS) and update the blog with relevant material to your industry.
A minimum update schedule should be once a week but more is better.
Do not forget to consider the positioning of your blog, you want to engage with your audience (that's the whole point of social media!), so use a personal tone.
In industries where it would be inappropriate to position yourself in this way, use a corporate style.
Stemming from the blog are all the other platforms.
The reason for this? When you update your blog with fascinating reading material, you use other platforms like Twitter and Facebook to drive traffic to that blog.
Your blog will then have an email capture where people can subscribe to updates and may also have calls to action to increase conversions (depending on your main objectives).
What platforms should you be using? Well this totally depends on your industry.
Niche businesses that would not appeal to the young demographic of Facebook would be unlikely to see any great benefit.
However there will be a great opportunity to promote to LinkedIn or Twitter.
Where Facebook is appropriate, it's incredibly powerful.
Facebook is a platform where businesses can pretty much create a second website at a much lower cost - known as a fan page.
You can use video, email capture and flash - not only this, but you can choose what tab of your fan page that users land on and what content non-fans and fans can see.
People are spending more and more time on Facebook, so keeping them on there instead of directing them to your external website, increases conversions enormously.
