• The Turk's Cap, or malvaviscus arboreus, is a hardy, deciduous fruit-bearing shrub. Named for its red flowers, which resemble the fez hats commonly worn by men in Turkey during the reign of the Ottoman Empire, this plant is considered a perennial, but is more shrub-like in appearance. It typically grows anywhere from 5 to 8 feet tall and about the same size in width. Full Sunlight

• The Turk's Cap can survive and even thrive in full sunlight. According to PlantCare.com, the Turk's Cap does best when exposed to southern, northern or eastern sunlight. However, prolonged exposure to full sunlight in high-temperature zones may cause its leaves to toughen or pucker. (See References 2)
  
  

Partial Shade

• Turk's Cap is known for its ability to tolerate many shading conditions. In areas with high temperatures, however, it is best that Turk's Cap be grown in partial shade to prevent drying out or burning. • Turk's Cap is also a good performer in full shade. Because of its tolerance for low sunlight, it makes a good plant for areas with significant amounts of shade, such as yards with large trees that provide a lot of shade and limited light. (See References 4; 5)
