    Self-Efficacy

    • The level of self-efficacy is determined by the level of performance a teacher believes he or she is capable of accomplishing. For example, a teacher with a high level of self-efficacy believes he is capable of overcoming difficult tasks and sees those tasks as challenges. In contrast, a teacher with a low level of self-efficacy views tasks he is unfamiliar with as daunting, and most likely, he will not attempt to overcome those tasks.

    Professionalism

    • Teacher professionalism is the the ability of a teacher to connect with students in a meaningful way as well as instruct in innovative ways that motivate, engage, and inspire learners. Furthermore, professionalism is a reflection of the teacher's goals and abilities, which also impacts the teacher's effectiveness inside the classroom.

    Connection

    • The relationship between teacher self-efficacy and professionalism is that the level of the teacher's self-efficacy directly impacts his or her level of professionalism inside and outside the classroom. For example, a teacher who has a low level of self-efficacy may not challenge her students, because she may feel she is not capable of succeeding.

    Benefits

    • A benefit for a teacher with a high level of self-efficacy is that his level of professionalism will reflect that he sees challenges presented to him in the classroom as tasks to overcome. Furthermore, it is likely that this type of teacher's students will also learn a high level of self-efficacy toward academics; therefore, they are less likely to shy away from academics that seem challenging at first.
