Workers Injuries - Get the Basics Right
So you have sustained a personal injury, and this has happened in or about or during your working hours, while you have been in some form or other contracted to and working for your employer? Before you even start thinking of claiming for any benefits or claiming for any sort of compensation, you need to go back to basics and complete a few simple but absolutely necessary steps.
I have listed them below, but it is not an exhaustive list, however, it will get you on the right path.
Report it straight away to your supervisor, manager or whoever you are supposed to report it to.
This will be outlined in your company contract, or workers manual, if it is not then ask.
See your doctor, or medical professional.
Even if you do get to see a company doctor, try to see your own medical professional too.
This is very important At the same time as 1 and 2 above, fill out an accident or incident report.
If you do not have the appropriate forms for this, then go ahead and write out your own version of exactly what happened.
Include as much detail as is possible, you can never have too much.
Things to include are times, dates, who was around and absolutely anything else you can think of, up to and during the accident injury or event.
Also write down what happened directly after.
Again I say you can never have too much detail, only too little.
Try and get any details of witnesses, their contact details that is.
If you cannot get their contact details then at least try and get their names and times that you saw them.
These are the basics.
If you get them correct from the very beginning then you will be well placed to having the information that will be needed further down the line for any workers compensation claim settlement that you may make.
