One is an intimate exchange with me as her wife (couples need quality time even in the phone) and second is a one-on-one talk with his child. My husband had a hard time understanding this point for he thought it is one and the same but I stressed the significance of his 2 roles, that of a husband and a father. He ought to maintain two relationships long distance. Tough, huh!

You can never get enough of each other and atleast once daily; do send a note of cheerful words to your partner. A short message could brighten his /her day. My husband is fond of sending out a Hi to me on a daily basis and indeed seeing his name appearing in my Inbox creates a positive impression on me.
