Scrub the inside of the pan thoroughly with soap and hot water. Rinse in cold water and dry with a paper towel or cloth. Place in warm oven or on stovetop on simmer until completely dry. - 2

Rub lard, bacon grease or vegetarian oil over the entire inside surface of the pan. Heat the lard, grease or oil to a depth of less than one-half inch in the pan on the stovetop until the pan starts to smoke. Turn the stovetop off, remove pan from heat, and cool and drain the oil or fat. Wipe pan with paper towel or cloth. - 3). Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Add grease, lard or oil to pan and heat in the oven until pan begins to smoke. Turn off oven, allow pan to cool, drain and wipe clean.
