Leaky Delta Faucet Repair
- 1). Observe the faucet to locate the leak(s). The leaks could be coming from the faucet base, stem unit, aerators or spray head.
- 2). Locate the main valve that controls the water supply to the faucet. In most cases, this valve is placed underneath the faucet. If there is no such valve, turn off the main water valve for the whole house, which is usually located outside the house.
- 3). Turn the tap on in order to confirm that there is no water flow. Push the handle up. Insert the 1/8 inch Allen wrench in the screw that is now visible, and unscrew it and remove the handle. You will have to do this if there is a leak coming from the base of the spout, the stem unit assembly or from the aerators.
- 4). Loosen the cap assembly using the smooth jaw wrench. Remove the caps with your hand. The smooth jaw wrench does not have teeth on it, so it won't damage the faucet's finish.
- 5). Remove the cam, cam washer and the ball unit with your hands. The cam washer and the cam are the two rings located just below the handle, before the ball assembly. They seal the ball assembly into place.
- 6). Use the pick to take out the seats and the springs. The seats are the two black, small rings set inside the ball bearing with the two metal springs positioned under them. The pick is a long pencil like tool, also called a Delta pick. Grab the spout and lift it off with your hand. You will need to replace the seats and springs if there is a leak coming from the aerator.
- 7). Insert the pointed top of the pick between the two spout rings and the groove, and remove them. Take the new rings and place them into the grooves using the pick. Take some stem lube and apply it around the spout rings with your finger. It is often the case that the spout rings are worn, and since they are made of rubber, they get loose over time. This will eventually cause them to leak. The two rubber rings are visible once you have removed the spout. Take the spout and apply some lube on the inside of it as well. Place it back in its place.
- 8). Take the new seat and spring and slide them onto the pick. Then use the pick to slide the spring and seat into their position. Press them down a bit with your finger.
- 9). Apply some stem lube on the ball and place it into its position. Place back the cam washer and the cam. Screw the cap into place with your hand. Take the smooth jaw wrench and tighten the hold. Put the handle in place and screw it in position using an Allen wrench.

Take off the aerator and position the tap into the off position. Turn on the water supply valve. Run the water and allow all the debris to flow out. Place the aerator back on.
