How to Make an Inexpensive Gift Basket for a Co-Worker
- 1). Decide on a theme for your co-worker's gift basket. To get ideas, think about what hobbies he enjoys or what some of his favorite foods and beverages are. You may want to limit the basket to common food items. If the gift basket is for a housewarming, you can include a bottle of wine and a towel set. Write down a general list of items you want to include in the basket.
- 2). Visit your local discount store to buy gourmet food and drinks that are on sale. If you want to include high-quality but inexpensive home items, such as soaps, towels or lotions, visit a home furnishings discount store. Home-baked cookies and brownies are also a cheap alternative to store-bought goods.
- 3). Find a basket or container, such as a gardening pail, which is large enough to hold everything you have on your list. Fill the basket with stuffing, such as raffia or Easter grass. The fluffier it is, the fuller the basket will look.
- 4). Arrange the items in your basket. It may be easier to start with the larger items and then insert smaller items into the remaining open spaces. Feel free to stack items or use a cardboard insert so you can arrange items on a slope. Secure items together with tape.
- 5). Place a large square piece of clear or colored cellophane on a flat surface. Put the basket in the middle of the cellophane. Wrap the cellophane around the basket so the entire basket is covered. Gather the ends at the top and twist.
- 6). Secure the twist by tying a colored ribbon around it. Make a large bow and curl the ends of the ribbon. Tie a gift tag or personalized note to the bow.
