Sensitive Skin Soap

• Most commercial soaps and cleansers contain ingredients that can be damaging and toxic to the skin, causing irritation, dryness, redness and inflammation. When washing acne-prone skin, use a cleanser or soap that is formulated for sensitive skin instead of for acne or oily skin. When treating acne, you will be using a benzoyl peroxide medicated cream that can leave the skin more sensitive and prone to irritation than normal. Using a soothing, sensitive skin soap will clean the skin without harming it. Be very gentle when washing. Simply lather up the face and rinse it well with water.
  
  

Low Concentration Benzoyl Peroxide Cream

• Medicating the skin will help reduce the size and appearance of active acne pustules and cysts, while preventing new acne from forming. There are many different types of benzoyl peroxide creams in supermarkets, available in different concentrations. It is important when treating acne to use the lowest concentration of benzoyl peroxide cream. This will ensure that the cream will not be too strong for the skin and cause rashes, peeling or burns. Apply a nickel-sized amount of 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream to the skin. Gently massage it in until it dries. Apply in the morning and in the evening.
  
  

Moisturizing with an Oil-Free Lotion

• When using a benzoyl peroxide cream, it is important to keep the skin moisturized. Even low concentration benzoyl peroxide creams can become drying if they are used by themselves, but applying an oil-free lotion to the face after the benzoyl peroxide cream will keep the skin from becoming irritated or dried out. Choose a lotion that is non-comedogenic and designed for sensitive skin. It will not re-clog the pores or irritate the skin. Use a dime-sized amount, massaging it gently into the skin until it has been absorbed. Repeat this process every time you use the medicated cream.
