At two months, you baby is developing many skills that will help him to reach milestones later in life. According to Baby Center, at this age your baby can differentiate between familiar voices and sounds, and he can respond to his environment. Your baby's sense of vision, touch and hearing are developing rapidly. In addition to having an ongoing conversation with him, there are several activities in which you can engage him to help his development along. - Swat Team is an activity that can be played with infants between two and four months to perfect their swatting techniques. Infants at this age are developing their hand-eye coordination, which enables them later to reach for objects and grasp items, according to Baby Center. Curiosity is strong around two months, as vision is better developed and babies will start to reach toward interesting objects hanging over them. With practice, babies can reach for and make contact with objects, improving their coordination and confidence. To play, use string to hang different objects over your baby close enough to reach but not grab. Vary the objects to keep your baby's interest. For example, a rattle, plastic measuring spoons or a ball of tinfoil are good objects to engage your baby's attention.
- The sense of touch is developing during the second month, which Baby Center states makes different textures very appealing to infants. Switch Swatch is an activity that can help develop a two-month-old's sense of touch. For this activity, select several different fabrics that each have a different texture. Run each fabric through your baby's hands and describe each fabric to him. After some time, babies will be able to grasp the textures on their own. Be sure to use clean fabric that is not a choking hazard, as the material may end up in your baby's mouth.
- Tummy Time is important for babies to learn the skills and develop the muscles in order to pull themselves up, roll over, sit up and eventually crawl, according to Baby Center. Lay your baby down on his stomach in a safe area such as on the floor or in a play pen. At two months old, most babies will not be able to lift up their head and play very much, but you provide some entertainment for your baby and keep him company in order to encourage his skills.
- From about two and a half months old, babies are learning to gain control over their bodies. As your baby starts gain some control, try playing "flying" games. Hold your baby in the air and guide him through the air in circles and different maneuvers. You can also play "flying" games by laying on your back with your knees bent and lifted off the ground. Place your baby with your knees on his stomach and move your legs around as if he is flying. Remember to talk to him and describe everything, as his sense of hearing is developing. This is a workout for you and an exciting activity for your baby.
