How to Remove Printing Electrical Conduit Pipe

104 9

    Prepare Items

    • 1). Pour about 4 to 6 oz. of acetone into a wide-mouthed glass or plastic container.

    • 2). Remove one piece of steel wool from its package and lightly moisten it with water.

    • 3). Hydrate the sponge and gently squeeze to remove most of the water. The sponge should be moist but not dripping water.

    • 4). Fill a container with about a quart of warm water for rinsing the steel wool and the sponge between uses.

    • 5). Put on the vinyl gloves to protect your skin from the acetone.

    Removing the Print

    • 1). Dip the steel wool into the acetone and gently shake off any acetone that tends to run out of the wool.

    • 2). Touch the acetone-saturated steel wool to the surface of the conduit pipe, directly over the printed area and rub the wool back and forth over the print. The ink will turn to liquid and the surface of the conduit will turn dark from the ink being removed. Rub until all of the print has been liquefied.

    • 3). Use the damp sponge to wipe off the liquefied ink from the surface of the conduit pipe immediately, as acetone will react with petroleum distillates in the conduit pipe. Rinse the sponge in the water and wipe the conduit clean one more time until all of the ink has been removed. The result is a clean conduit surface with no print or ink visible.
