The 70th annual Golden Globe Award ceremony/dinner was held Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in, of course, Beverly Hills, California - the same posh digs where former US Senator and presumptuous presidential candidate John Edwards was caught by the National Enquirer with his pants down back in 2008€"and where Hollywood's and television's rich, famous, beautiful people congregate with their pants usually on to congratulate themselves on being Hollywood's and television's rich, famous, beautiful people and to reward themselves for being talented in the estimation of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
As far as accolades go, the Golden Globe Awards are little more than a tepid warm-up, a tiny globule compared to the Academy Awards festivities next month. The widely- discredited HFPA show has been described as nothing more than a beauty contest judged by €oddball characters€ (Christian Bale) and Jack Nicholson once showed his contempt for the whole charade by mooning the Golden audience.
Yet nominees take it very seriously since winners get a leg up on the Oscars, the pinnacle of success in their star-studded eyes.

I have to concede I fully agree with Ms. Finke's observation that half the country probably bailed following Julianne Moore's win as best actress in €A Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television€ category.
As snarky but honest Finke noted, €This was a liberal project humiliating Sarah Palin... Not that Red States were watching anyway since they hate everything to do with Hollywood. Hard to blame them, given the noxious self-adoration of evenings like this.€
As a New Yorker living and thriving deep in the belly of the liberal, blue beast, I'm still a proud €Red Stater,€ thank you very much, Ms Finke!
Nevertheless, as a conservative aberration in Liberal Land, I feel I can offer a few right wing opinions on some of the Golden Globe's choices for awards based on a conservative perspective:
. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION: KEVIN COSTNER, HATFIELDS & MCCOYS (Good pick because Bill Clinton pushed for Daniel Day Lewis)
. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL: JENNIFER LAWRENCE, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK (Great pick because I like her)
. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE: ANNE HATHAWAY, LES MISERABLES (She deserved it because she looked like hell bald and dirty and she did try to sing)
. BEST SCREENPLAY MOTION PICTURE: QUENTIN TARANTINO, DJANGO UNCHAINED (A tribute to black power and to Tarantino's ability with making the N-word acceptable)
. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES - COMEDY OR MUSICAL: LENA DUNHAM, GIRLS (An exercise in how to transform a talent-less, class-less exhibitionist into a €star€)
. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL: HUGH JACKMAN, LES MISERABLES (His acting is a helluva lot better than his singing)
. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA: JESSICA CHASTAIN, ZERO DARK THIRTY (Although the PC Globules didn't see fit to choose Zero Dark Thirty as the best picture of the year or Zero's director as the best and instead picked Argo and Ben Afleck)
. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS WHO DIDN'T APPEAR IN ANYTHING IN 2012 BUT FELT THE GOLDEN GLOBES WOULD BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO HINT AT HER LESBIAN SEXUAL PROCLIVITIES IN FRONT OF A NATIONAL AUDIENCE (EXCEPT FOR RED STATES): JODIE FOSTER.
Celebrations are usually good events, times to revel in great achievements, in accomplishing great goals.
Celebrations in which we join in the revels of people who consider themselves elite and better than the hoi polloi, when we idolize them and give them awards as a substitute for our hidden cravings for fame, are nothing short of pathetic.
