Your Definite Chief Aim

The first piece of great advice I got when I started in network marketing was to read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill and to follow through on the exercises suggested in the book.

One of the very first steps is to write out your Definite Chief Aim.  The first part is to give a definite amount of money that you want to earn and to state what you are going to give in return.

The second paragraph is where a lot of people seem to start encountering problems.  It asks you to believe that you have the money in your possession and trust that it will come to you as you give the service that you intend to render.  It, also, asks you to trust that a plan will be given to you to help you attain the goals that you have stated.

Part of the problem with the second part is that it can be interpreted as all of this being done sitting in your house and living your business success in your mind and not get out there in the world and take massive action.  Remember, you said you would render a service in return for the money - start rendering with the philosophy that you are here to serve others and not just make money.

The second part of the formula deals with the development of self confidence.  Napoleon Hill admonishes you to realize that you are more than capable of bringing your Major Definite Purpose into reality.  He, also, has you promise to be persistent in the actions that you are taking until your goal has been realized.

Knowing that the thoughts that dominate your mind will lead you to what you seek, you are asked to make a promise to yourself that you will spend thirty minutes everyday defining the person that you intend to become.  For instance, as a network marketer I knew that I wanted to be the mentor to my team that I had always wanted to have.  I, also, intended to become the most powerful leader that I had it in me to be.  I work on these things on a consistent, daily basis.

The next portion of the formula states that any desire you consistently hold in your mind will find expression in the outer world.  To this end Mr. Hill tells you to devote ten minutes of everyday developing your self confidence so that you are prepared to handle this eventuality.  I have seen numerous examples in the network marketing industry and in the automotive repair industry where the person reaches an incredible level of success and then sobotaged their business because they couldn't hand it.

Once again, Napoleon Hill returns to taking persistent action toward your goal.  This time he goes so far as to state that you will never stop trying until you have developed the self confidence to achieve it.  This meant a lot to me when I first started in network marketing and was constantly comparing myself to people who seemed to be having overnight success.  I just wouldn't stop being "the little engine that could" until I reached my first goal.  Then, I reset the goal and worked toward it with the same "never say die" attitude.

To me the fifth section is one of the most important.  It says that you cannot succeed at anything unless it is built on truth and justice.  You are told in no uncertain terms, that whatever you do to attain the money will be based on a win-win scenario.

This section, also, states that you will acquire and attract what you need to succeed because of your willingness to serve others.  And, that you will eliminate negative feelings like jealousy, envy and anger in recognition that they will never bring you success.  Looking at network marketing, again, I will emphatically state that those who fail have not entered into the business with the idea of serving others - they are in it solely for the money.

If you have not worked on this formula and especially if you are in the network marketing business, I suggest that you waste no time in getting "Think and Grow Rich" and working your way through it.  May it bring you the success that my brother and I have had in ours.
