According to Indigenous Peoples of Brazil, the Kuikuro use genipap (Genipa americana L.), an edible fruit which yields a black dye, and annatto (Bixa orellana L.), which produces the rich red used by this girl around her eyes, for their body paint and for art objects.

Some of the other pigments used both for body art and artifacts are white clay and resins.
