The Ultimate Materials For the Ferret Hammock and Keeping Him Comfy and Cozy

After you get your new ferret you might notice their sleeping intervals to be a little excessive.
This is perfectly normal because these guys possess a very active lifestyle and need all the rest they can muster.
As such, you will also pick up on that they can be very choosy when it comes to their bedding.
This is one of the unique characteristics that make these fun little critters truly a one of a kind pet.
Having this in mind it might be a good idea to familiarize yourself a bit with the ferret hammock and why they are the perfect bed for your new found friend.
Yep, you heard that right.
Ferrets love hammocks and they are pretty much the same as any hammock you will see in the tropics, except much smaller.
There are four things you should pay special attention to while you are in the process of figuring out just what kind of hammock he will have, the inner lining, the exterior covering, the kind of rope you will use to hang it in his cage, and its overall size.
The inner lining will determine the softness and comfort level he experiences when lounging around inside of his cage.
Lamb's wool is probably the best material to use for this very reason, because it is the ultimate in soft, cushy materials.
However, you can use any material that is fluffy and comfy for this purpose; just make sure that it is safe for your ferret in case his hammock gets torn and he decides that it would be a good idea for tasteless snack.
Remember, these guys have a very curious nature.
For the exterior covering you may tempted to use soft fabrics because it easy to get and it is probably less expensive than other choices out there; however, it may not be the best solution.
For one, this kind of material is going to require more care and maintenance because it gets dirty quicker and it is easier to chew through.
Though cleaning it won't take much of your time if you plan for it, repairing any holes will consume more of your time.
If you do decide to opt for a softer, pliable exterior just be prepared to have a needle and thread handy because you are going to need it.
You will want to choose a more durable fabric for the exterior covering and something that is more water resistant.
Perhaps nylon or something similar would be the best choice.
No worries though, he will still find it to be extremely comfortable and will use it quite frequently.
So you have the hammock assembled and now all you have to do is to find the best place in his cage to hang it.
Avoid thin, lightweight, string or rope for this job.
It could easily break and if you are not careful your lovable fuzzy could inadvertently get injured and you wouldn't want that.
Use a heavy, relatively speaking of course, rope that will not only support his weight but one that is harder to chew through.
If he can't chew through it he will soon get bored and give up trying, besides; if he was able to nibble at it, it could weaken its strength and possibly cause injury as the lightweight rope could.
As already mentioned, ferret love this kind of bedding but you have to make sure it will fit his body.
As simple as it sounds, overlooking his overall size is a common mistake and one that is completely avoidable.
If the hammock doesn't fit him well it won't be as comfortable as it could for him plus he will rarely use it.
Larger is always better so just make sure it is at least one and a half his size and you will alright.
Finally, finding the perfect materials isn't that difficult and no matter what there will come a time when repairs will have to be made.
Because ferrets are extremely active and playful creatures repairs are unavoidable.
However, if you keep the ferret hammock in top shape and take care of it well, repairs will be minimal.
Trust me, paying attention to these small details will not go unnoticed by the frisky little guy and you find that he will remain content for many years to come.
