How to Eliminate a Bat from Your House
- 1). Find out whether the bat has been in contact with any household members, including pets. Some bats carry dangerous diseases such as rabies, and so if anyone has been bitten or scratched by the bat you must contact your local health department and capture the bat for testing by the Center for Disease Control.
- 2). Close doors to trap the bat in a room. Open all the windows and external doors to provide an egress from the house.
- 3). Switch on all the lights in the room, as this will allow the bat to see more clearly and fly out of its own accord.
- 4). Wearing leather gloves, attempt to catch the animal using a wet towel or a butterfly net. Release it outside once caught. Avoid injuring the bat during this capturing process.
- 5). Alternatively, trap the bat using a box or container. Slide a piece of cardboard or the lid of the container underneath the box to secure the bat, and release it outside.
- 6). If the bat is too tired to fly away, place it near a tree. The bat will climb up the tree to safety.
