How to Replace Individual Ceramic Tile
- 1). Wearing safety glasses, scrape out all the grout around the old tile using a chisel. Clear as close to the original tile as you can.
- 2). Cut the tile diagonally with a dry cut saw, cutting through to the material behind the tile.
- 3). Break the tile pieces away with your chisel, and remove them from the area.
- 4). Spread the tile tile adhesive over the area where the new tile will lay.
- 5). Lay the tile down and tap it in to place. Allow some time for the tile to set in with the adhesive. (Setting times will vary depending on the type of adhesive you use.) Ideally, wait for twenty-four hours before grouting.
- 6). Spread grout over the tile using the padded grout float. Grout all the gaps between the new tile and the other tiles, unless these gaps occur between tile and wall or fixtures. Seal these gaps with caulk to allow for expansion.
