Cheapest Way Possible to Redo Kitchen Tile
- 1). Clean the old tile and grout well. Remove any food stains, grease, oil or debris from the surface of the tile. You can paint the kitchen floor tile, counter tile or backsplash tile in the kitchen; all of these areas tend to collect debris from use, so make sure they are well-cleaned and dried.
- 2). Apply oil paint only to the tiles themselves, not the grout joints. Start at the top, or back of each tile and pull the brush down or toward you in even strokes. Overlap each stroke slightly for complete coverage. Allow the paint to dry completely until it is no longer tacky.
- 3). Use a small, thin paintbrush to change the color of the grout. Grout paint stains the grout by penetrating it, brightening and covering stains. Work carefully, pulling the paintbrush toward you to avoid getting the paint on the tiles.
- 4). Brush a coat of urethane sealer over the tops of the painted and dry tiles to seal the new color in. Apply the sealer the same way you applied the paint to avoid missing any areas. Allow the sealer to dry completely.
