Sit in a relaxed, meditative position. Your spine should be straight and your shoulders level.

    • 2). Hold your Tibetan singing bowl near the solar plexus for ease.

    • 3). Relax your fingertips and extend -- do not wrap your hand around the bowl.

    • 4). Allow your ribcage a couple inches of breathing space by positioning your elbow out.

    • 5). Tilt the bowl slightly toward the striker, or mallet.

    • 6). Hold the mallet as if you are holding a large pencil between your thumb, pointer and middle fingers. Keep your middle finger about two inches from the tip of the mallet. Rest the mallet on the web between your thumb and pointer finger.

    • 7). Use a full arm motion as you begin to rub the tip of the mallet outward and clockwise around the outer rim of the bowl. Do not flex your wrist to turn the mallet.

    • 8). Listen for a steady ring from the bowl as you rub. You are listening for a female overtone. Adjust the sound until you hear the higher pitch by rubbing harder or slowing down. Don't forget to breathe as this help you to focus.

    • 9). Stop rubbing and allow the ring to sound for as long as you like. To stop the ringing, lay your free hand against the bowl.

Reverse the angle of your mallet inward in your hand, but continue to rub in a clockwise motion around the outside rim of the bowl for a male overtone. Adjust the angle of the mallet until you hear the deeper pitch.
