Erotic Connect the Dots 2011 Daily Calendar

Give the gift of sexual and artistic inspiration every day of the year with this connect the dots desk calendar.  You'll have to think carefully about who has a desk where such a calendar won't get them fired, but if you've got that special someone who has everything, this is probably something they don't yet have!  312 pages, $14.More »

Erotic French Postcards

For book lovers this beautifully produced hardcover album of vintage French erotic postcards delivers a fully sensual experience. The images are hotter than most modern pornography, each one opening up an erotic imaginative space between viewer and subject that is ripe with possibility. But it's not only for looking. The size, format, and smooth sheen of the paper makes this a book you want to fondle, but carefully. The postcards from 1902-1937 are all from Alaxandre Dupouy’s collection and focus heavily on fantasy archetypes (the dominatrix, the French maid). 144 pages, $25.More »

Hos, Hookers, Call-Girls, and Rent Boys

A self described “collection of short memoirs, whore war stories, confessions, nightmares, journalism and poetry” author and now editor David Henry Sterry has done a wonderful thing bringing Hos, Hookers, Call-Girls, and Rent Boys into the world. Man of the stories are from a writing workshop he conducted with sex workers in San Francisco, and while there are more than a few celebrity sex workers, it’s the lesser known, and less often told stories that will probably stay with you. Sterry managed to edit for style without ever editing for meaning or politics, and the result is a complicated and diverse portrait of sex work in the early 21st century. Highly recommended. 288 pages, $16.More »

Bitten

Curl up with this fantastic collection of 15 Gothic erotic short stories that will make you shiver in all the right places. Just running your hands along the cover and ink black paper edges feels like something erotic and foreboding. Since the end of her run with Best American Erotica it’s been my hope that Susie Bright will continue to deliver, Allen-esque, at least once a year with her wonderful eye for the best in erotica. So far she hasn’t disappointed. What distinguishes this collection, and much of Bright’s body of work, is the focus on characters that draw you into the action and erotic tension, making these stories you want to read to the end, and not just skim for the good stuff. With Bitten, it’s all good stuff. 192 pages, $16.95More »

Dita Striptease

Too often titillation is synonymous with superficial. If this is your experience you probably haven't seen a performance by burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese. And since it’s harder and harder to catch a live performance we can be thankful to It Books for creating this playful and adorable set of flip books, each documenting a classic Von Teese performance. Join Dita in her oversize martini glass, bathing with an olive sponge in the Martini Glass Show; feel for her Bird of Paradise, swinging in a gilded Victorian birdcage; and take your time as you flip through a classic stiletto corseted striptease. Light, fun and thrilling, it makes a perfect gift for the aspiring burlesque dancer or audience member in your life. $30.More »

Grayson Perry

“In art, as in life, I have been dusted with the perversion brush.” This artist quote opens the sex and gender section of this significant new book, the first major monograph on the Turner award winning artist Grayson Perry. Famous for his ceramic vases which are at once delicate and shocking, and also famous for being out and unapologetic about his sexuality, Perry’s work challenges us to deal with sex, gender, and violence in ways that are unexpected in his chosen mediums. This 256-page collection features over 300 color illustrations, an essay by art historian Jacky Klein, as well as commentary from Grayson about his work and his influences. It's a beautiful book documenting a lovely and fascinating artist. $65More »

DAR: A Super Girly Top Secret Comic Diary

I am officially in love with Erika Moen’s work and I urge you to buy yourself a copy of this book as a gift, and then buy a second copy for a friend. Moen's award-winning weekly webcomic DAR is an autobiographical tiptoe through her Rabelaisian life as a queer, somewhat manic, seriously sex craving, funny, optimistic, mostly broke comic artist. The heaviest she gets is dealing with a major broken heart, but Moen shines when she is sharing simple struggles and private moments (usually involving bodily fluids or expulsions). This book is a collection of DAR strips from 2006-2009 featuring such gems as “Odd things that made more orgasm,” “Dyke with a boyfriend,” “Butt sex,” “If I had a penis,” and “Sex accidents.” 104 pages, $10.More »

25,000 Years of Erotic Freedom

An excellent survey of erotic art and pornography from pre-history to modern times. This collection is worth owning as much for it's 80 full color illustrations as it is for the accessible, funny, and thoughtful accompanying essay by Alan Moore (author of Lost Girls, Watchmen, and V for Vendetta). In words and images Moore illustrates the relationship between transgressive erotic images and the health and vibrancy of a culture in a given place and time. Given the breadth and depth of the images in this collection I’d recommend it equally for anyone new to erotic art and for long time porn collectors. 96 pages, $22.50.More »

Bob's World: The Life and Boys of A.M.G's Bob Mizer

Referred to as the Hugh Hefner of gay publishing, for 41 years Bob Mizer published Physique Pictorial, America’s first, and most explicitly gay physique magazine. He began at a time when the most he could do was take black and white images of semi-clothed men flexing and strutting under the guise of athleticism. Eventually he moved to full color and full nudity, and produced a body of work that influenced art, advertising, and pop culture as a whole. This lavish collection from Taschen features over 250 photos, a one-hour DVD of Mizer working between 1958-1980, as well as remembrances of Mizer by artists David Hockney, Jack Pierson and John Sonsini and photographers David Hurles and Hal Roth. 288 pages, $60.More »

Best Erotic Comics 2009

I’m so happy that Greta Christina and Last Gasp books are back with another edition of Best Erotic Comics. Last year’s inaugural issue was a revelation, reminding us of the possibilities of erotic narrative, and just how hot and twisted people can be without ever leaving the confines of their own rooms, and their own minds. The 2009 edition is as challenging, hilarious, and filthy as last years. 176 pages, $20.More »
