Get it With Belief Power
Jesus Christ and the Buddha lived in times when there probably wasn't much culture or psycho babble talk.
But, in their own way these two spiritual giants new how to make things happen with belief power.
I am a Christian, so most of my comments will concern Jesus Christ; however, I have a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, subsequently, I have great respect for the Buddha.
My problem is, I simply don't know enough about Buddhism to comment about it in an intelligent manner.
There is an exception to this statement, see Helium the comparison of Christianity and Zen Buddhism article.
This refers to an article I wrote on Helium about the nature of Zen Buddhism.
Both Jesus and the Buddha were strong adherents to the power of belief and the mind.
You may find the preceding statement reinforced many times over by referring to Their Holy Verses.
Why am I fascinated with the subject of the power of belief? Simply stated, I have studied and witnessed personally the incredible results people obtain when they utilize their faith and belief to create and achieve better lives for themselves.
Here's what Christ said about mind power, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
".
Matthew 17.
20.
The Buddha said the same thing, "A monk who is skilled in concentration can cut the Himalayas in two.
" Anguttara Nikaya 6.
24.
What impresses me about this power of making things happen is the fact that the entire process is very straightforward and simple.
You don't need to wear yourself out with all of the mental gymnastics that is associated with so much of our contemporary human potential movements.
Christ tells you to just believe and have faith that things will work out for you.
He does ad the very practical aspect of "Not being double minded".
In another words, when you are going after something, don't hold back mentally and don't be second guessing yourself.
Because people that are double minded won't get the positive results they are looking for.
This is the rub, isn't? Most of us are not strong enough not to be second guessing ourselves.
It's simply human nature to have doubts.
And, this is why we end up with the short end of the stick.
The good news for all of us human beings is that this power of belief works for anyone that has strong belief and faith.
Sinners and Saints are both welcome to play the game.
It's a big tent, if you get my drift.
You don't have to be a psychic or a genius to avail yourself of this seemingly miraculous power.
Years ago, when I was selling real estate, I used this form of visualization to sell, very successfully, lots of homes.
I outsold my competition.
I did it with the power of belief.
I mean it was like placing a hot knife through butter.
You kick butt big time.
Don't misjudge me.
I am not a Bible thumper or a religious nut.
In fact, I went over forty years without going to church or talking much with God.
Why? Because I had a couple blocks in this regard.
Thanks to cancer and a few visits by the Grim Reaper, I was able to get over my religious blocks and avail myself of my natural inclination towards religious participation.
No, I don't fear or sweat death.
I am not even sure there is a life after death.
I mean this whole business could be one big Fairy Tale.
But I do love and appreciate the Teachings of these two great historical leaders that tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves.
This takes guts and fortitude.
Especially for someone like myself who possesses a big dose of aggression.
I just recently got the significance of loving our neighbors and I am beginning to internalize this idea.
Guess what, I am finding people are being much more open and friendly to me and I feel more friendly and outgoing to them.
Go figure? Zen and Christianity
