How to Plant a Hanging Strawberry Pot

    • 1). Turn your plastic pot upside down. Place it on flat, sturdy ground. Drill a 2-inch hole through the bottom, pushing the drill slowly through the center. It may take a few minutes, so be patient.

    • 2). Flip the pot right side up. Cut a square of canvas that fits as neatly as possible in the bottom of the pot. Spread it over the hole in the pot. Glue it at the corners with regular white craft glue. Let it dry for about an hour. Cut an "X" in the fabric over the hole with a utility knife.

    • 3). Hang a bucket from a lantern hook, fence post or stair railing. Get a friend to help, if necessary. Gently release a strawberry seedling from its tray. Pass the root ball up through the X in the canvas from the bottom of the pot. Gently crumble the root ball to loosen the roots.

    • 4). Fill the pot with potting soil to within about 2 inches below the rim. Hang the pot from a laundry line or a rod iron lantern hook. Water the pot from the top until it drips out of the bottom onto the strawberry plant. Water it this way about every three days, or when the soil feels dry to the touch.
