The April 2008 auction at Bertoia Auctions reached their predicted high estimates, with the 2,462 lot auction realizing $1.8 million. The highlight of the show was an early Erzebirge-style Noah's ark selling for $36,800.

Other highlights include the Jean Austin du Pont scale model roombox, a scale model of Philadelphi's Fairmount Park residence, a Marklin tin gazebo and a selection of Dresden ornaments from the collection of Fred Cannon.

  • Scale Model from du Pont
  • Sold Date: April 2008
  • Auction Price: $16,100*
Interesting Note:
Inspired by Jean Austin du Pont's dining room and from her estate, this scale model with silk draperies, Georgian table and 12 hand-carved mahogany chairs on a hardwood floor, was sold from her estate to the Delaware Toy & Miniature Museum. It was displayed until the museum closed its doors and now it's back in the du Pont family. Her granddaughter remembered it as a child and bought it back for the family.
"It had sold at the Jean Austin du Pont estate sale, but the granddaughter wasn't old enough to purchase it at that time," Jeanne Bertoia explained. "She was actually present at our auction and bought three articles that were from the du Pont family, one for each of her three children."
