    • 1). Check the batteries that power the 6.5L engine. Unscrew the bolts that hold the positive and negative terminals of each battery. Check the metal surfaces for any rust and corrosion, which may affect battery performance. In addition, cracked casing on the engine has to be replaced, along with any terminal cables that are frayed or damaged.

    • 2). Inspect the alternator, a vital component in providing power to all of the engine's mechanisms. Unscrew the electrical wiring from the back of the alternator and check for any loose or damaged wires. These must be replaced for the engine to work properly.

    • 3). Check the alternator pulley belt and alternator brushes for normal-working parameters. The pulley belt should not have excess wear and tear, or be damaged -- if it is, then replace it. Check the brushes by unscrewing the bolts that hold the alternator in place, turning the unit over to examine them and ensuring there is no damage.

    • 4). Replace the glow plugs. These are similar to spark plugs, as they heat up and assist in starting the engine. Remove the distributor cap and check whether there is damage to the electrical wiring and rotor inside. Replace the part if necessary.
