- 1). Open the forum post. Begin typing your message until you come to a spot where words fail to convey the emotion you want to communicate. It's time for an emoticon.
- 2). Place your cursor in the exact spot where you want to insert the emoticon. This can be at the end of a sentence or even in the middle of one.
- 3). Look for an emoticon icon around the forum box. The emoticon icon is usually at the top or bottom of the message, but can also be at the side. It's represented by a yellow smiley face.
- 4). Click on the emoticon icon. This displays a list of emoticons available. Hovering over the emoticons with your pointer gives you a hint as to what emotion the emoticon conveys.
- 5). Pick out the emoticon you want to use and click on it to add it to the forum post. When you are through, preview your post to make sure all emoticons make sense and are in the right place.
