SLEEP - Using the Five Senses

103 22
We have all read numerous tips and advice on how to get a good night's sleep.
The usual advice; turn off the TV, put down the cell phone and set the computer on sleep mode.
Then pull the blinds and minimize the distractions.
When this doesn't work, our days are disrupted and we have a need to nap on the couch in the afternoon.
So, what else to do? There is no need to run out and purchase a whole new bedroom set, or a bunch of pills.
A Feng Shui Bedroom has a few more things for you to try; using your five senses.
Let's take a look at your bedroom.
1.
The visual; Have a look at the colours and the prints in the room.
The intention of having an exciting theme in the bedroom can subliminally take your mind into another world, rather than La-la land.
Is there a lot of stuff under the bed or clutter oozing out of the closet? Even if you know you're going to clean it up tomorrow, just knowing that you'll 'get to it later' can prompt you to start another TO DO list.
And then, you are distracted from getting your sleep.
2.
The noise; Sit for a minute on the side of your bed and listen.
Can you hear the neighbours? Street traffic? Wind chimes? The dog across the street? Often, the attempt to plug-in some 'white noise' still doesn't work.
There are days that these noises can rattle your brains! Have you seriously tried earplugs? They come in a variety of sizes and textures for comfort.
They do work! 3.
The smell; "Really?" you ask yourself.
When was the last time you opened the windows and let in some fresh air? Each time you change your sheets you have an opportunity to welcome freshness into the room.
Any stale items hanging around and the laundry pile need to be rounded up each night; out of sight! Check under the bed! 4.
The touch; Do you really LIKE the sheets and blankets you've chosen for the bed? Do they FEEL NICE? Nice enough for you to want to spend 8 hours with them? If not, it is time to go shopping.
5.
The taste; Simple as it is, but YES don't forget to brush your teeth and wash your face before bed.
Everything should be Kissing fresh! In addition to using your five senses, a Feng Shui Bedroom has soft lines and soft materials.
I encourage you to choose things that make you want to slow down rather than speed up.
• Select patterns with soft lines rather than bold hard lines.
• Choose warm materials such as upholstery, drapes and rugs; rather than glass, lacquer and metal blinds.
• Find items that are pleasing to both you and your partner.
Display two of anything; two birds in a print, two prints of people, two candles, two end tables, two hooks for the towels, etc.
The gesture of 'two' is also an indication that both of you are included in this sacred space.
You may also wish to remove any electronic items away from your bedside table.
If these items are within 3' of your head space, the electromagnetic waves (EMF's) could be disrupting your sleep.
Some couples place a towel over their TV and mirrors to cut the shine in the bedroom.
If you have even one item with a glowing electronic dot (that has retina-piercing abilities), you will need to cover it up.
When in doubt, use your senses to guide you; a clean, fresh and relaxed bedroom can promise you a good night's sleep! Pleasant Dreams! ~ Kathryn Wilking, 2012
