    Install Windows XP SP3

    • 1). Save any open documents and exit out of any running processes. Restart the computer. Log in to Windows XP as an administrator.

    • 2). Disable real-time protection on any antivirus, anti-malware or third-party firewall applications installed to your computer.

    • 3). Launch Internet Explorer and go to the Windows Update site (see Resources). Click "Express Install (Recommended)."

    • 4). Click "Install." Read and agree to the end-user license agreement. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Windows XP SP3 to your computer.

    Troubleshoot Your Drivers

    • 1). Launch your web browser and navigate to your PC manufacturer's website. Click "Support" or "Download."

    • 2). Select your computer's model from the list of categories. Select "Windows XP 32-bit" or "Windows XP 32-bit SP3" as your operating system.

    • 3). Click "Start." Click "Run." Type "devmgmt.msc" into the dialog box. Press "Enter" or click "OK."

    • 4). Compare the dates of the latest drivers on the manufacturer's website with the drivers installed to your computer. For example, to check if you have the latest driver for your wireless LAN adapter, expand "Network adapters." Double-click the driver for the wireless adapter. Click "Driver." Check "Driver date" to see when the last driver was installed. Return to the PC manufacturer's website and check the date of the latest driver for the wireless LAN adapter. If the driver on the website is more recent than the driver on your computer, download and install the latest driver to your PC.

    • 5). Repeat the process for any peripheral devices (such as printers or tablets) installed to your computer. Restart your computer.

    Remove Windows XP SP3

    • 1). Click "Start." Click "Run." Type "appwiz.cpl" into the dialog box. Click "OK" or press "Enter" to open "Add or Remove Programs."

    • 2). Check "Show Updates." Right-click "Windows XP Service Pack 3." Choose "Remove" or "Uninstall" from the contextual menu.

    • 3). Click "Finish" to restart the computer.
