How to Make a Bamboo Fishing Pole
- 1). Take the length of dried bamboo and using your fine sand paper, sand the length of the bamboo to remove splinters or rough spots. Wipe it down and apply a coat of wood lacquer. Allow this to dry for 8 to 10 hours. Apply a second coat of the lacquer evenly and again, allow to dry.
- 2). Taking a length of twine, secure it to the top and bottom of the pole tightly. This is your guide for placing the eyelets and reel. Mark up from the thick end of the pole 2 feet. Make a mark every foot until the very tip of the pole, all in a straight line. Using your sand paper, sand out a spot at those marks as wide as the eyelets. Going from big to small, epoxy each of the eyelets onto those spots, securing them with the tie wraps. At the tip, epoxy the tip guide on. Allow the epoxy to cure for 12 hours.
- 3). Four inches from the wide end of the pole, sand a spot that is both in line with all the eyelets and wide enough for the base of your fishing reel. Using your tie wraps, attach the reel to that spot very securely. Remove the reel's spool and add your mono filament line. Thread the pole and you now have a home-made bamboo pole. The reel needs to be removable, hence the tie wraps. This rod will be great for large and small mouth bass, perch and most small to medium fresh water fish.
