104 9
    • 1). Open the Windows Start Menu and type "msconfig" into the search box. If you don't have a search option, select "Run" and type "msconfig" into the text box. The Microsoft Configuration Utility will open.

    • 2). Select the "Startup" tab to view the start-up list. This list contains all of the programs set to start every time Windows boots.

    • 3). Deselect the programs you don't want to automatically initialize at Windows boot. Take care when deselecting--many of these programs are necessary for system operation. Visit bleepingcomputer.com (see Resources) for a comprehensive database of start-up programs. This site will tell you whether it is safe to remove a start-up program.

    • 4). Click "Apply" then "OK" when done making your changes. Your settings will be saved and you will be asked to reboot. Do so and your start-up program removal will be complete.
