Opened to the public in April 2010, the Bras Basah MRT Station or Mass Rapid Transit Station is one of the best known landmarks of Singapore. It was the Marina Line Architectural Design Competition through which this award winning construction was commissioned. The latter competition is organized by the Singapore Institute of Architects and the Land Transport Authority and to date is considered as one of the best competitions in Singapore.

Located in the heart of Singapore's business district the Bras Basah MRT Station stands in front of the Singapore Art Museum at the end of Waterloo Street. The site is one at which all visitors to the city should stop over at, from where they can take back great memories.

The unique design of the Bras Basah MRT Station fulfilled two important requirements - the visual connection of its interior to improve the travel experience of the commuter and a structure that faded into the landscape so as to preserve the historic district and the park location it was situated in. The answer lay in a 35 foot deep station with a roof which seems to double up as a landscape element and a skylight. If one were to view it from the station platform it resembles a striking skylight while from the park, it is like a truly mesmerizing reflection pool. The Bras Basah MRT Station also has the longest escalator of all stations in Singapore, at 41.3 meters while its island platform is located at basement 5.
