- 1). Measure the width and height of your chair back and add an inch to both totals. Cut one red piece of fabric using this measurement for the back of the Santa Claus chair cover and set it aside. Divide the length of the chair back in thirds and add 1/2 inch. Cut one piece of red fabric for the Santa hat the size of one third of the chair back. Add a 1/2 inch to the length of the remaining two thirds and cut a piece of white fabric for the beard of Santa.
- 2). Place the red hat fabric width and the beard fabric width together with the right sides facing and pin them. Sew the pinned edge together using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Press the seams open. Cut one-third off of a paper plate and place it on the fusible web (a man-made fiber that will melt when heated). Draw around the plate on the paper side of the fusible web and cut it out approximately 1/4 inch beyond the draw the line. Place the fusible web glue side down on the back of the flesh or face colored fabric and iron the fusible web to adhere. Cut the face along the drawn line on the fusible web. Remove the paper backing.
- 3). Lay the sewn hat and beard rectangle face up on your work surface. Center the face piece glue side down on the beard section along the hat and beard-seamed edge. Iron the face to adhere it to the beard fabric. Cut one piece of white felt as long as the width of the Santa hat chair back and 2 inches wide. Place and pin the felt strip over the seam between the hat and the beard and overlapping the face. Top- stitch the edges of the felt hat brim to the Santa chair cover.
- 4). Place the front of the Santa chair cover face up on your work surface. Place the back of the chair cover face down on top of the front and pin together the long sides and the top. Sew a 1/2-inch seam allowance along the pinned edge. Fold the opening edge to the inside a quarter inch and iron. Fold a quarter inch again, iron and pin. Top-stitch the pinned edge creating a hem.
- 5). Cut the strips of the remaining beard fabric 1/2 inch wide by 4 inches long. Tie a knot in the center of each strip. Place wax paper inside the chair cover to keep the glue from seeping to the other side of the chair cover. Apply craft glue to the knots on the strips and randomly place them all over the chair cover beard section around the face and along the bottom of the hat brim. Allow the glue to dry. If necessary, trim the strips around the face. Apply craft glue to the back for the black buttons and the red button and apply to the face for the eyes and nose. Allow the glue to dry. Glue the pompom to the top right-hand corner of the hat and allow it to dry.
