Fifty Shades' fans are left hungry for more - will E. L. James satisfy us with another trilogy?
So you've read them all: Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. With the talk of the new Fifty Shades movie coming up to keep the bed warm, plus there is always the option to reread the books (although it's not quite the same is it?) there is plenty to help with the withdrawal symptoms. However, there may be some good news in the pipeline for Fifty Shades fans to get tied up again in Christian and Ana's world.
Rumor has it that the Fifty Shades author E. L. James has plans to rewrite the trilogy from Christian Grey's perspective. We've already experienced a taste of this in the teaser chapters included at the end of Fifty Shades Freed, but a close source to the author says that more may be coming. That will certainly satiate fans until the movie finally comes out.
What would seeing the story from the other side actually bring? We know what will happen in the story before we even start reading, so what can fans gain from seeing the Fifty Shades story being told from the point of view of the bossy, yet sexy billionaire?
Firstly, we've already glimpsed a key moment in the Fifty Shades series told in the voice of Mr. Grey: their introduction at the interview when Ana steps in for her sick friend Kate for the college newspaper. From Ana's perspective this meeting is a complete disaster - from stumbling through Christian's office door to the famous "are you gay?" question. This is the turning point of the whole story, yet seeing it from Ana's perspective it remains a mystery why someone as powerful, handsome and charismatic as Christian Grey would be interested in following up with a shy, clumsy girl like Ana. It's only when we see it from his side that we begin to understand what attracted him to her in the first place.
Their second meeting in the Fifty Shades books comes across utterly coincidental. Ana's voice sees Christian's appearance at her DIY store nothing more than a coincidence, yet the teaser chapters show the premeditation and an almost stalker-like trait that is more in character with Mr. Grey. He sets up the act of being in the neighborhood, just to meet her again.
In just those two meetings from Christian's account we learn more about the character's interest and more - such as the background checks he runs on Ana immediately after their first meeting. From finding out the money in her checking account to her relationship status, Christian Grey, unlike Ana before her interview, really does his homework to find out what kind of girl she is.
We know the hero of the Fifty Shades books is a dark and mysterious character. Christian's true nature is just shown as the tip of the iceberg, but perhaps an account giving us the other side of the story can help fans really understand and appreciate the complexity of Christian's character.
Right now, the best we can hope for is that the rumors are true - and we can relive the Fifty Shades fantasy once again!
