Most DJs use CDs or digital audio for mixing. Although professional DJs still keep the pure vinyl DJing alive, CDs are definitely the first choice for many DJs. You can use CDs in several ways: to market your own music/mixes, organize your music or as a medium for storing different genres. - Produce your own CDs with mixes, sets or compilations. These CDs are wonderful promotional tools for the DJ, and are often given out at their gigs to fans and others in attendance. DJs looking to book large venues may use these CDs as a demo of not only their skills, but also of musical style and taste. For example, if a venue is looking for a new sound, the DJ may have a prepared CD that showcases her talent at spinning that genre of music.
- Many DJs use CD turntables. Some CD turntables only work with CDs with a single track. You may also not like the hassle of looking through albums to find which number the track is. A CD with a single song on it is easier to organize and find during a hectic live set, where timing is of the essence.
- CDs help a DJ organize his music by genres. Data CDs are extremely efficient for storing many MP3 files. Store playlists on CDs, so if you need a good mix of music for a specific genre, all you have to do is look for that genre playlist. Create CDs with many genres of music and playlists to satisfy any venue or crowd.
